Wood/Teak Ipe

Teak is one of the most intriguing outdoor categories. Teak is naturally rot and insect resistant, making it extremely durable and impervious to the weather. Left unattended, teak will weather naturally to a lovely silver grey color. If you want to maintain the original finish, please check with an Outdoor Specialist at The Patio Shop or with the manufacturer for specific instructions. Maintaining the furniture will help prevent checking and splitting although these are natural qualities of wood and do not affect performance of the product.

Teak wood furniture is very dense and, therefore, heavy, and quality teak pieces are a lifetime investment. The Patio Shop buys only from manufacturers whose teak comes from controlled harvesting practices which protect our environment. Outdoor wood furniture from The Patio Shop can be left in full sun exposures year round without consequence.

Ipe timber comes from the Chiquitania tropical dry forests of Bolivia. Because of the nature of these forests, trees grow very slowly, producing some of the world's strongest and most durable timber species.

Ipe outdoor furniture made of 100% heartwood is critical for maintaining the long-term strength and integrity of the mortise and tenon joinery throughout the seasonal extremities of freeze and thaw, and extended wet and dry periods. Sanding cross-grain prevents the lifting of surface micro-fibers and preserves a smooth feel as the wood weathers out-of-doors.
